Our Story: British Knitwear Made to Last
Malloch's is a British knitwear brand built on one simple idea: the best jumpers in the world are made slowly, by people who've spent a lifetime learning how. We work exclusively with heritage manufacturers on the British Isles, championing the craft and skill of an industry that has quietly made some of the finest knitwear on earth for well over a century.
Made in Hawick, Scotland
Our knitwear is made in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders — a town whose name is synonymous with fine knitwear the world over. Our factories sit on the banks of the River Teviot, where wool has been spun and knitted for over 145 years. Many of these mills are still family-run today, with techniques and quality standards passed down through generations rather than written in a manual.
We work with some of the finest yarn suppliers in Britain — including Todd & Duncan, Z. Hinchliffe & Sons, and J.C. Rennie — to source the best lambswool, merino, and Shetland wool available. That wool is then knitted in Hawick on heritage machinery, by knitters who have often spent decades perfecting their craft. It's a slower, more deliberate way of making clothes — and it shows in every jumper we sell.
Why We Started Malloch's
Malloch's was founded by Chris Chasseaud, a graphic designer and art director who spent over a decade working in the fashion industry before starting the brand. Chris cut his teeth co-founding the menswear label DENT de MAN, before going on to become Brand Manager for Norwegian Rain and Blackhorse Lane Ateliers. Alongside this, he has spent a decade as a style editor and contributor for titles including Ape to Gentleman, Oracle Magazine, PORT Magazine, and STREETS Magazine — experience that gave him a close-up view of exactly what British manufacturing does better than anyone else, and how rarely that story gets told properly.
That's the gap Malloch's set out to fill: a brand built entirely around British-made knitwear, with total transparency about where every garment comes from, and no shortcuts on quality to hit a lower price point.
What We Stand For
British manufacturing, properly credited. Every Malloch's garment is made in the UK, in factories we know personally, using yarn from mills we can name. In an industry where "Scottish knit" often means very little, we think provenance should mean everything.
Timeless style over trends. We take our design cues from two places that don't go out of fashion: the classic tailoring of vintage Hollywood, and the practical, hard-wearing clothing worn by people who actually work outdoors — on the sea, on the land, and in the hills. The result is knitwear designed to be worn for years, not seasons.
Small batches, made properly. We produce in small, carefully managed runs rather than mass-producing to a forecast. It means some styles sell out and don't come back in the same colour — but it also means we're not sitting on unsold stock, and every piece gets the attention it deserves during production.
Sustainability that's built in, not bolted on. Wool is one of the most naturally sustainable fibres available — biodegradable, renewable, and remarkably long-lasting when cared for properly. Combined with small-batch production and a "buy it once" philosophy, sustainability isn't a marketing line for us; it's a consequence of how we choose to make things.
